Our Halloween Picture 2009!

Here we are before our Halloween Party.  Some how I lost the pants to my husband's outfit and didn't find out until 15 minutes before our party.  But, luckily he improvised.  Thank Goodness!

Witch's Brew Halloween Punch!

I've never used dry ice before and so this was really fun (even for an adult).  For the punch I mixed together a tub of lime sherbet and a 2 liter of sprite on top of a big chunk of dry ice and the smoke began.  Doesn't it look cool!  I was surprised at how many people haven't seen dry ice in punch before.

By the way I got the dry ice at my local grocery store they sell it up front in a cooler.  Please read all the safety and handling precautions it can be dangerous.  Use common sense!

Update 2013:
I've been getting a lot of traffic because of my little o'l Halloween Punch....who knew.  Baffles me at what this blog gets the most traffic from.  I love this Witch's Brew that I originally saw done in 1st grade at our school Halloween party and was A.MAZ.ED! I know. I know. It doesn't take much but I was only 6. Give me a break!

I did this again last year at a friend's Halloween party but they were a little more cautious and were afraid to just put the whole chunk in there even though when I did it before it just sunk to the bottom of the bowl. YOU ARE NOT TO TOUCH THE DRY ICE WITH BARE HANDS OR DRINK AND PART OF IT! I also did not let the kids serve their selves just to be sure they didn't touch it or get any.  All of my dry ice did stay in tact and did not break apart.  If I remember correctly. Any ways.  Long story short I agreed we should take some extra precautions.  I wrapped the dry ice in a piece of cheese cloth and tied it with a strip of the cloth for the tie.  This way you can make sure if the dry ice breaks apart none will get in the drinks.  YOU CAN'T INGEST IT AT ALL! If the smoke starts to die down then add more sprite. The warmth of the pop will make the smoke start again and bubble.

Styrofoam Veggie Head!

I first saw this here and thought I would try this for my Halloween party and was pleasantly surprised by the end result.  I called it my Medusa Head.

I bought the cheapest mask I could find at a party store, a styrofoam head from a wig shop, and a heavy glass dinner plate at Walmart.  I then hot glued down the head to the plate for stability, and then skewered some veggies and poked them in the head, and put the leftover veggies around the bottom of the plate.
It was a big hit.

Make Your Own Pumpkin Template!

I did this last year and it turned out great.  So, of course, I decided to do it again.  All you do is:

1. Clean out pumpkin.
2. Go into a Word Processing Program and find a font that you like.
3. Enlarge font size to the largest size that your paper can hold
4. Print off
5. Tape to pumpkin
6. With a pin poke dots around the edge of your letter
7. Take off paper
8. Carve out letter
9. Enjoy, your own personalized pumpkin!

Free Dove Soap From Walgreens!

Here's the deal I did at Walgreens for the week of 10/25:

Dove Bar Soap--$0.99 with in-ad coupon

Use $1/1 Dove face care coupon from the 10/4 RedPlum insert
Free after coupons

My daughter was diagnosed with eczema and the Dr. said we should only use Dove soap so, when there is a FREE deal on Dove soap I take full advantage.  I purchased 40 coupons for I think $2.50 off of ebay and of course used my survey money for that so, I technically didn't spend anything for the coupons.  I personally am willing to pay a little for coupons rather than buying multiple papers.

Besides tax, I got 40 bars of Dove soap for FREE!  Yippee!

Creepy Halloween Display!

I saw this idea on this blog and loved it.  I needed to decorate for my Halloween party but, didn't want to spend an arm and leg for decorations....then I found these.  Perfect.  If you click on the pictures it will give you a better view.

You can use things you already have around your house.  I used a small vinegar jar, pretzel container, pickle jar, large vinegar jar (from a garage sale) and few other ones, filled them with candy eyeballs, chocolate covered worms, wax vampire fangs, and colored water and there you have it a creepy mantle display.

Want to do your own?  You can find them on Johnny Love's website Love Manor.  Go to his site and then to his flickr page and download them for free!

Oh, how I wish to take better pictures......this blog's pictures does this creation much better justice than I did.

Baby Shower Napkin Diaper Favors!

At my nephew's Baby Shower um....17 years ago a lady brought these baby diaper favors and I told my mom I was going to make these one day and well.... that one day was yesterday.  This was the last and final thing I helped my niece do for the infamous Baby Shower.

More people liked these than the cookies I slaved over.  Oh well, I was happy they liked these too.  Except, these were a lot easier.  I used left over napkins from my daughter's Birthday party, folded them up like a diaper, put a pin in them, dipped them in wax and put them on wax paper to dry.  Then, we filled them with chocolate covered peanuts for poop, of course!

Personalized Water Bottle Labels

Here are my Halloween Party water bottles.

Here's the Baby Shower water bottles.

Personalized water bottles are so easy to make.  I find a cute graphic online and then customize it with Photoshop.  For the Baby Shower water bottles I edited in Photoshop and put the mom's name and shower date on the baby carriage.  The Halloween water bottles I just put Happy Halloween above the graphic so no need for the Photoshop on those.  I then put the graphics in Microsoft word and put in landscape format put as many as I could on a sheet and printed them off on my printer.  I wanted to water proof them so, I bought 3 inch wide clear packaging tape and put that over the front and back side and trimmed to fit and then stuck them on the bottle with some clear tape to secure.

These always get a lot of attention and they are so simple to do.  For my daughter's party I put her picture on them and put above it guess who's turning three!  My daughter loved it.

Onesie Cookies for Baby Shower!

We'll I'm not sure why I decided to start with such a challenging cookie project for my first cookie icing experience.  But, anyways I did.  I have never iced a cookie in my life except for using the premade store bought kind before these cookies.

Long story short, I saw these cookies on this blog and thought I can do that and I did.  They were VERY time consuming and there were lots of learning curves but, I pulled it off and my everyone loved them at the baby shower I helped my niece throw for her best friend.  Aren't they sooo cute.  I know they aren't perfect but, I was happy with the end result.

Dog Cake!

Today is my good o'l hounds birthday!  And of course, she does get her own cake.  Happy 10th Birthday, Callie!

Nutter Butter Halloween Cookies!

These are so easy to make.  All you do is dip half of a nutter butter cookie in white chocolate and then put two mini chocolate chips on for eyes then put on wax paper to let dry and voila instant ghost cookies.  BOO!

Pregnancy Halloween Costumes!

These are too cute and original.  I couldn't help but share them.  When I was pregnant I was only 1 month along so, I couldn't very well pull these off, but how fun these would be if you are really big and pregnant.  I was pretty modest and don't think I would have done these with number one then but, if I had number two I think I would love to dress up in one of these cute pregnancy costumes.

Update: With my second child I made this maternity halloween skeleton shirt. Take a look it's a DIY project.

I Love Makeovers!

I love makeovers. I saw this dresser before and after and was impressed by the mayo trick to get rid of water stains on wood. Apparently, you can rub a generous amount of mayo on the water ring stain, leave overnight and then wipe away in the morning. Fabulous! I'm always looking for neat tips and tricks for cleaning.

One more to add....my daughter went to her Grammy's house and then came back with her new white shorts and darling pink top covered in RED lipstick. Are you kidding me? I dress her in her best and my husband and Grammy let her do this. Well, here’s how the story goes….they were playing hide and seek and my daughter decided instead of seeking that she would decide to put on lipstick.

Not to worry. I will find a way to get it out. Guess what I used? Dawn dishwashing soap. I put it on the kitchen cabinet and laid it where only the layer that had the lipstick was on it I would be working with. I did this so I wouldn't let any seep through to the back layer that didn't have any on it. Then, I gradually put dawn (I used the foaming kind) on the stains kind of scratching it with my finger nail to work it in and to remove the lipstick that was coming out. This was a process because it doesn't come out all at once. After I was finished rinsed it out in cold water and threw it in the regular wash. Really painless to do and it ALL did come out. Not a trace to be seen.

Restuarant.com Review!

We'll I've been skeptical about the whole restaurant.com thing. Reason being, was that I read on some other blogs, this one in particular, that some people had had their credit cards unknowingly charged month after month for some membership that restaurant.com said they signed up for when they bought their certificate from restuarant.com. Of course, these people didn't sign up for any "membership" they had only bought their restaurant certificate and they thought that was it.....wrong. So, after much hassling they did get the memberships stopped.

So, I started thinking I would really like these wonderful sounding certificates too but, was scared I would fall victim to their scam of saying that you signed up for some membership and have my credit card charged. Well then I thought.....if I used a prepaid credit card they wouldn't be able to do that because it is a set amount and after that amount is used then you can't get anymore. Ta...Dah!

I decided to buy when they had the certificates 90% off and got a $25 certificate for $1.

My husband and I went out for our "date" night last night and used our one for "The Bistro at Seville in Tulsa, OK ". It was for $25 off $35 minimum purchase + 18% gratuity and it excluded alcohol. We had:

Appetizer chokes & cheese $9
Entree #1 Pasta Yaya $14.50
Entree #2 Bistro Filet) $28.95
Drinks (Diet Coke) $?
Two beers $?

18% Gratuity $11-ish

And our grand total was around $76

So, we ended up paying $51.

Expensive still! But, we got to try a new restaurant which won't be one of my faves but, was nice to go to and we might go back again. So, point being it was really easy to use the certificate. All I did was when it got close to time for our waitress to get our check I told her that we had a resturant.com certificate and then handed it to her. I was a little worried that they would kind of be a little "snotty" about me handing over this computer printed whole page that is your "gift certificate" which I really call it a coupon because it really seems more like a coupon rather than a gift certificate because of all the stipulations. Nice though because how many time have you went into a restaurant and given them a piece of paper that I technically only paid $1 for and get $25 off the top of your check. Overall, I had a nice time using my certificate.
